Mountain biking around Leith Hill

Andy and Kieran

Recently, Leith Hill has become a favourite local(ish) ride spot for myself and Andy. We currently have a circuit that takes us about 2.5 hours to complete. This involves starting in the village of Westcott (if we can find somewhere to park the car), riding up to the top of Leith Hill where there is an impressive view of the Guildford plane and performing a nice long loop through the surrounding countryside.

The guys I was with for this particular ride were Andy and Kieran. Andy is the person I ride with most throughout the year. We tend to meet up after work or at weekends. Kieran is someone Andy has been friendly with for a while now and he has now been with us for a couple of rides.

Currently we are not in best shape for this. As you can see below, we do need to get off our bikes every now and again. Though the hill Andy is climbing here is probably the worst on the ride. It's very steep, very long (another 50 metres to go) and covered in bumps, rocks and roots. On top of all this, it's just near the end of the ride, and after over two hours of solid riding, we tend not to have the energy to make it to the top. We are going to be working on it though! Maybe we should try doing this stretch in the reverse direction though?

Now that you have made it this far down the page, I'll offer you the opportunity to view a short mpeg movie of Andy riding.I will warn you however that it is approximately 1MB in size, contains about 20 seconds of footage and is particularly unexciting. Given perhaps two minutes wait for 56K modem users I'm sure that most would not find this to be worth it. So unless you have a really quick internet connection I would recommend just ignoring this opportunity and going somewhere less demanding on your bandwidth or finding somewhere with more interesting content.
